TIFTON, GA (WALB) - An area sixth grader decided to give back to her peers by organizing a shoe drive.
Calli Thomas is a sixth grader at J.T. Reddick School.
She said she noticed other students being picked on for their shoes and she wanted to do something about it.
The sixth grader used Facebook and posters to get the word out and collected over 40 pairs of shoes.
Friday morning, she presented the donations to the school's social workers who will then hand them out to students in need.
"To know that they're not going to be picked on because of the way that they wear their shoes or their shoes types," said Calli.
Calli said seeing all the shoes makes her joyful.
"Oh when a child receives clothes or receives shoes from an anonymous source, I mean it is like the excitement in their eyes. It's like receiving a Play Station 4," said Michael Norman, school social worker.
Callie hopes to do another drive in the future.
