ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority approved a nearly $50,000 demolition bid Wednesday night.

A Macon contractor will take out the interior walls of riverfront retail property located on Front Street that was previously used for office space.

"We've got the microbrewery project that's going and it's slated to open Labor Day of 2017 so in order for us to really create the synergy. The idea is to have more businesses that are open and ready to go the same time the microbrewery is so this is one step in being able to move that process forward," said City Manager LaToya Cutts.

Downtown leaders hope the company will be ready to begin the demolition work in a few weeks.
