LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Folks in Lee County honored a local hero in a special way Tuesday.

The county dedicated Sutton's Landing Park on highway 19 to honor Lance Corporal Steve Sutton.

The Lee county native was killed serving our country with the Marine Corps in Afghanistan in 2012.

As the crowd sang 'America the Beautiful,' his family unveiled the sign to the new park.

Sutton's widow says having this by the creek is just what he would have wanted.

"This would mean a lot to Steve because he loved the water, he loved the fish, he loved to go on the boat and anything to do with being outdoors. He would be very honored for this," said Sutton's widow Toni Sutton.

The county will be adding amenities to the park, including a boat ramp, so folks will have easier access to the Kinchafoonee Creek.
