DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Board of Education received a high honor.
The Georgia school board association named the board a distinguished board for 2016.
This means board members completed requirements, including going beyond minimum training and improving school board communication and community relations.
The spokesman for the Dougherty County school system says this is an exciting achievement, especially since the board faced communication issues just a few years ago.
"This board has really kind of turned things around," said J.D. Sumner. "They are cooperating together, they're communicating together and they have really put an emphasis on doing everything they can to govern well and support the school system."
The Lee County, Early County, Pelham City and Worth County school boards also received the distinguished distinction this year.
