ALBANY, GA (WALB) - AFD officials received a call at 2:38 for a structure fire on 1600 block of Marie Avenue, at an apartment complex, with four units.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic when they go on scene. Investigators believe the fire started in the bedroom and spread to the attic.
Within 14 minutes, firefighters had the blaze under control.
There was severe damage to the attic and the ceiling fell through.
"Just be very cognizant of what you're doing. Make sure when you leave that you turn off all lights, make sure all of your candles are blown out. Make sure all space heaters are unplugged and off," said Albany Battalion Chief Kieth Ambrose.
The cause is still under investigation.
There were no injuries and no one was at the apartment when the flames erupted.
