ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A few south Georgia lawmakers and the people they represent discussed new legislation Thursday evening.

Albany State Representatives Winfred dukes and Darrel Ealum and Senator Freddie Powell Sims attended a forum at the Albany Civil Rights Institute.

Constituents expressed concerns about issues such as healthcare, education and the state budget.

"What are we going to do to better fund our local schools," said Representative Ealum. "How are we going to get money down to our schools that really need it most."

"There's a little bit of consternation coming from a lot of the folk," said Senator Sims. "because they're just not sure about what's going to happen in the coming year."

The lawmakers said they try to be as open as they can be with the people they serve.

The General Assembly session opens January 9th.
