Albany neighborhood on alert after burglaries

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - People who live in a Northwest Albany neighborhood are on alert after several burglaries in recent days.

At least three break-ins or attempted break-ins have been reported in the West Doublegate Drive area this week.

Someone broke through the front door of a vacant house in the 25-hundred block.

One homeowner reported scaring away a burglar trying to break into their back door.

Neighbors are being told the burglars are targeting homes during the day, when most folks are at work.

Dr. Charles Gillespie is the Doublegate Neighborhood Watch captain.

"Fortunately we haven't had much activity over here in quite a while, but now that the Christmas season is in play, I would anticipate that there could be more with time," he said.

The Doublegate Neighborhood Watch covers 16 blocks.

The group is sending out warnings and suggestions to protect their homes.

Neighbors are asked to call police and report any suspicious activity.
