DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A man is dead following a house fire Thursday morning in South Dougherty County.
On Thursday night, investigators were working to identify him and find out if he is connected to a series of fires in that neighborhood.
Investigators said that a vacant home on Howard Drive caught fire just before 5 Thursday morning.
Fire crews said they found the body of a white male.
The home had power, but no one was living here.
This is the third fire in a vacant home in the last two weeks in the area just southwest of the airport, including one home destroyed by fire on Wednesday on Willingham Drive.
Wednesday's fire was caused by a space heater that set a recliner on fire.
There was also a space heater in the home that burned on Thursday.
Investigators are working to identify the victim before releasing more information.
"You know calm the fears of anyone in the community. Sometimes you have to go slow when there is a death, and that is what we are doing in this case. We are just trying to follow up, follow all leads," said Investigator Sam Harris with the Albany Fire Department.
The body has been sent for autopsy to the GBI Crime lab in Moultrie.
