TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Volunteers and Tiftarea YMCA employees are stuffing baskets for the 6th annual Y Christmas.
Each basket is funded or donated by a sponsor and is packed with up to $125 in presents.
Kids who qualify also get a say in what they receive.
"They have a wish list of three things they would like," said volunteer Kirsten McAlpin. "And we always try to make sure those happens whether it's a Batman or a baby doll."
And every basket that is packed and stored, means another kid has a chance at a very Merry Christmas.
"When you actually see the kids receive it, it just turns it to a whole new ballgame," said McAlpin. "You know that you're making a difference in the lives of these children."
Organizer Jason Bishoff has been working for a month leading up to Saturday's event.
"(For) a lot of these kids, their Mom and Dads are not making a lot and can barely put food on the table," reminded Bishoff. "Let alone buy them Christmas."
Each year the volunteers are touched by stories, like the time Bishoff was baffled at a kid jumping for joy over a pair of underpants.
"I said mom, why is he so happy about the underwear." She said 'he's the youngest of 4 kids. He gets hand me downs. He doesn't wear any underwear.'"
McAlpin had an anecdote of her own to share.
"One of the mothers she was so sweet and she had several kids," remembered McAlpin. "She told her kids 'we can't play with this when we get home because we have to put it under the tree.' And made us know this is all these kids are getting for Christmas."
With three days left, 16 kids still do not have a sponsor. The YMCA is working to make sure no kid who signed up goes without Christmas.
