ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The CDC is urging you to get your flu shot during national influenza vaccination week.

Flu activity usually peaks between December and February.

The CDC recommends the vaccine for everyone six months of age and older especially those with weak immune systems like pregnant women and seniors.

They stress the vaccine is safe.

"Coincidentally some people will get sick shortly after getting a flu shot but it's merely a coincidence. The flu shot does not cause the flu and it doesn't cause any problems except for rare cases," said DPH District Health Director Dr. Charles Ruis.
