THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The Thomasville Police Department and Thomas County Sheriff's Office raised close to $10,000 during their annual goodwill project.

Each year for the past 16 years, they've held this fundraiser to provide everything from meals to toys for families in need.

This year every ticket for the event was sold, totaling to $9,700 raised.

Officials said its a great thing to be able to give back to those who need it the most.

"Being in law enforcement we encounter or come across families on a number of occasions that are needy, that are not fortunate enough to have a Christmas for the children," said Capt. Maurice Holmes, Thomasville PD.

With the funds raised, the officers will give special gifts to local families later this month.
