CORDELE, GA (WALB) - While the rest of South Georgia gets in the holiday spirit, Crisp County is getting in the cougar spirit.
Crisp County High School's football team the Crisp County Cougars are preparing for their big playoff game.
This is the third time in school history that the Crisp County Cougars have made it to the semifinals.
They haven't seen a state playoff game since 1995.
Head coach Shelton Felton told WALB News 10 that the playoff will take place at the Cougars' home.
Coach Felton said the team is 8-0 when it comes to playing at home and they're hoping to make it 9-0 after the semifinals.
The community is also excited for the big game.
Area businesses like restaurants, hotels, and shops have been putting up signs reading "Go Cougars" all throughout the City of Cordele.
Coach Felton said his team appreciates the support.
"These kids look in those stands and see people they know calling their names and people they don't know cheering them on. It's human nature, we all want to be cheered and loved by somebody. The support has been great. The community has been awesome," Felton said.
The playoff game against Cedar Grove will take place on Friday, December 2, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cougar Den.
If the team wins Friday night, they will advance to the state championship game next week in Atlanta.
