ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Friends of a Westover High graduate will raise money this weekend after a tragic accident left the young man working to regain movement in his legs and arms.

Grant Brunson is a freshman at Georgia Tech.

A few weeks ago, he was injured during a team-building activity with his fraternity.

He fractured his C5 vertebrae.

His friends, including Hope Joiner, are planning a series of fundraisers to help his family pay for his medical bills.

"When stuff like this happens, I think it's really easy to feel helpless and feel like there's absolutely nothing you can do, because I'm not a doctor. I can't heal him. So, it was just anything we could do to help him is what we were going to do," said Joiner.

So far, the gofundme page they created has raised more than $19,000 for Grant's medical bills.

Here are the fundraisers:

Saturday, December 3: World Camp Crossfit community workout at 9 a.m. They will be taking donations to go straight to Grant's medical expenses.

Sunday, December 4: Car wash and bake sale at World Camp Crossfit from 12 to 4 p.m.

World Camp Crossfit is located at 2722 Dawson Road in Albany.
