ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Sheriff's Officials are investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate.
Lane Albritton, 23, of Mitchell County, died about 7 p.m. Monday in the shower facility in the jail infirmary.
Investigators said it appears Albritton hanged himself.
Albritton was charged with possession of spice as well as a probation violation in Mitchell County.
Jailers saw him less than an hour before he was found dead.
Sheriff Kevin Sproul said this was the first suicide in the jail in almost ten years, and they're doing a thorough investigation.
"We are going to look at everything. Turn every leaf over. And see if there was any outcry or any indication at all, that he may have been planning this or thinking about it," said Sproul.
Sproul said he and his officers were very upset by the death and counselors were on hand for his employees.
The GBI conducted an autopsy Wednesday that showed no signs of foul play.
