TIFT CO., GA (WALB) - Teachers in Tift County got the surprise of a lifetime before the Thanksgiving holiday.
A dozen public school teachers were tapped as recipients of the 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award by the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence.
School officials and their families surprised the teachers with the honor.
Nominations are submitted throughout the year.
Stephanie Kimbrell, a second grade teacher at Len Lastinger Primary, said it would be a day she never forgot.
"It's something that I never thought I would receive. I mean, it's truly an honor. For that many people to come in and my family here. It was truly a highlight of my career," said Kimbrell.
The 12 teachers will be honored in a ceremony later in February.
