DECATUR CO., GA (WALB) - Georgia State Patrol Troopers are continuing their investigation of a crash at the intersection of Hutchinson Ferry Road and Hannatown Road in Decatur County.
Operator Cromer with Georgia State Patrol's Communication Center said GSP got a call from Decatur 911 advising of a wreck at about 5:40 p.m. on Saturday.
The GSP Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was notified to see if anyone was at fault for the wreck. One fatality and one injury were confirmed.
According to officials, an SUV was stopped at the intersection. A motorcycle driven by 30-year-old Roy Earnest Rawlings of Chattahoochee, FL was traveling south on Hutchinson Ferry Road at the time.
The SUV pulled into the path of the motorcycle while turning north onto Hutchinson Ferry Road, causing Rawlings to crash into the front driver's side headlight of the vehicle.
Rawlings was then thrown from the motorcycle upon impact, which caught fire shortly afterward.
EMS arrived and pronounced Rawlings dead on the scene. Only one passenger with minor injuries was known to occupy the SUV.
Officials are awaiting further investigation to determine any charges.
