AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

What would you do for $500? Some people will stand out in the cold, placing a hand on a giant Christmas tree.

Downtown Americus has added a new exhibit to it's main street. The 'Touch a Tree' event brings people of the community together to show how much willpower some have by touching the main Christmas tree in Rylander Park.

The only rule is to keep a body part on the tree at all times.

The last person standing gets $500 to spend downtown.

"It's been a lot of fun. There's been a lot of people that just come down here to watch. They've seen it, they've heard it on the radio, they've seen it on our Facebook page. They're probably wondering, is this for real?" said Patrick Kay, Director of Main St. & Downtown Development.

Organizers are prepared for people to possibly stand for a few days.
