ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The commission also voted on Tuesday night to apply for a $100,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources to help build a 14-mile recreational trail from Tift Park to Sasser.

Albany Utilities would match the grant with $400,000 to fund the first part of the trail from the park to North Slappey.

"It links the Phoebe Northwest or North campus and it runs to the Walmart grocery store so it connects a lot of things for people where people who live in that area can get on the trail and walk to the grocery store rather than getting in their cars," said Paul Forgey.

If the city gets the grant, construction should start in about a year and a half.
