One of the biggest traditions for Thanksgiving could be the most dangerous.
Before you fire up the turkey fryer this Thanksgiving there are some things you may want to know.
A video from CNN shows the dangers of what could happen if you don't take the proper safety measures when cooking the holiday bird.
Officials said to thaw the turkey completely before dropping it in the fryer.
And be sure to measure out the correct amount of oil.
Also use a thermometer to ensure the oil isn't too hot.
"If you're going to deep fry a turkey, we always recommend that you do it outside for one thing, because if there is a flash fire, there is a greater possibility inside of spreading the fire throughout the home," explained Kelly Harcrow with the Albany Police Department.
Also be sure to use a thermometer to ensure the oil isn't getting too hot while the turkey is cooking.
