DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

The folks who have paved the way for our current educators were celebrated on Thursday.

Lamar Reese school of the arts hosted a retired-teacher's Thanksgiving luncheon.

There were hugs and smiles as teachers reunited with old friends.

Ten retired teachers enjoyed lunch and performances by students at the school.

It's the current teachers' way of giving back.

Many of those who attended put in more than 30 years into the Dougherty county school system.

"Over the years they've become very close to use through our working relationships so it's a time where the retirees come back and we just celebrate the appreciativeness that we have," Robin Calhoun, an instructional coach at Lamar Reese Elementary said.

Other schools in the Dougherty County school system had similar events in their schools as well.
