DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Local principals are taking new initiatives to improve our schools.
Students from Morningside, Alice Coachman, Lamar Reese and MLK Elementary move on to Southside Middle School, and later Monroe High School.
The principals of those schools say they will be meeting once a month to discuss how they can work as a whole, to better improve their schools, from the ground up.
They'll discuss what learning initiatives are working best throughout the schools, both socially and academically.
They are in the beginning stages. The principals say they are looking at putting together an attendance task force and academic coaches.
"These conversations are pretty much as an infant now, but as we continue to grow and have those conversations we are positive, because we've looked at the research, that it will really help our school pipeline strengthen," Monroe principal Vinson Davis said.
The schools are hosting a community day on Saturday at the Monroe High School track from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
