AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is looking for volunteers to help maintain its baseball field.

The sport was an important part of President Carter's upbringing.

On trips home from Washington when he was in the White House, President Carter would host softball games on this field in Plains featuring his family and Secret Service agents against the media.

The field still hosts an annual baseball tournament but it needs a little care.

"This baseball field is an integral part of the community of Plains because it's tied to the rich history of both Plains High School and the city itself," said Park Ranger Kevin Alexander.
