Thomasville teen charged after assault on student with autism

THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

 A 19 year old is charged with aggravated assault after police said he beat up a student with autism in Thomasville.

Jordan Stewart was at Southern Regional Technical College to visit his girlfriend.

He is not a student there.

The victim is a student who was at the college for a dual enrollment course.

Investigators said Stewart thought the victim was talking to his girlfriend and a fight broke out.

"Anytime you knock someone unconscious you never know what kind of mental or physical damage you caused to them," said Capt. Maurice Holmes.

The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

He has since been released.

The college has released a statement on the incident:

"Southern Regional Technical College is aware of an incident that occurred on our Thomasville Campus Thursday, November 10th and was reported by a local news outlet on November 15th, 2016. SRTC values the safety and security of all students, faculty, and staff. We are collecting the details of this incident fully cooperating with local law enforcement. "
