2 killed, 1 injured in weekend wreck in Lanier Co.

LANIER CO., GA (WALB) -

Two people died in a wreck on GA 125 around 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

According to GSP, Linda Gale Gillis, 70, of Ray City and Jean Bavender Remington, 68, also of Ray city both died in a collision on GA 125 just south of Palmetto Pines Lane in Lanier County.

A female minor was also injured in the accident and taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment according to a statement from GSP.

Officials said that Gillis was driving a Dodge Dakota south on GA 125 and Remington was heading north in a Ford Mustang when Gillis crossed the center line and struck Remington's vehicle.

GSP said the that Gillis and Remington were pronounced dead at the scene, and that the minor was in the Dakota with Gillis and taken to the hospital by EMS for injuries she received in her lower extremities.

The statement from GSP also said that Gillis was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, but Remington and the minor were both properly restrained.

Troopers believe that Gillis was driving with her headlights off and think that may be a contributing factor in the wreck.

GSP said that no charges will be filed in the accident.
