MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The day has come for Moultrie residents to trade in their old, in-ground garbage bins for new and improved roll-out bins.

On Monday morning the city's public works department made their rounds on the northwest side of town, utilizing their new garbage trucks.

Under the new system, trash collectors can pick up nearly 100 gallons of trash per home once a week.

Solid Waste Coordinator Bruce Terrell said the biggest issue they experienced on Monday was cart placement.

"We did run into a few issues with some carts being blocked by cars, some vehicles that were in the way, some carts that were too far away for the arm to reach out," said Terrell. "But today, we went out and got those carts and had an extra man in the truck to welcome in the new system by giving them a break and not just skipping them."

When each cart was distributed, residents received a card with the pickup schedule on it.

Any residents who have lost their card or have any questions can call (229) 668-5423.
