ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany church is working to help victims of a hurricane in one of the poorest countries in the world.
Byne Memorial Baptist Church held a Helping Haiti silent auction dinner on Friday night.
Folks got a taste of Haitian food and enjoyed cultural dances.
Members were encouraged to donate and sponsor families in need.
"To see this or to know that this was happening they would be thrilled that people care that they're are people on the other side, kind of on the other side wanting to help and extending a hand," said Byne Youth Ministry Luke Rogers.
The church hopes to raise enough money to provide 50,000 meals, sponsor 100-kids for school and 20 families who need housing.
