THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The city of Thomasville made a special announcement during a Veteran's Day celebration on Friday.

In 2014, the city was awarded the title of a Purple Heart city, but the city did little to highlight the designation.

On Friday, city leaders unveiled new signs and flags that will be going up soon.

They want residents and visitors to know that Thomasville supports its veterans.

"Really give an outward sign that really says we support you, we appreciate your service. You can do it internally, but when you do it externally, everybody knows you have 100 percent support behind your veterans," said Tourism Director Bonnie Hayes.

The signs will go up on the major entrances into Thomasville, including Highway 319, Highway 19 and Highway 84.
