DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Students sang songs and made remarks as they celebrated veterans day early at Northside Elementary school.

The students learned about the sacrifice men and women who serve make from veterans themselves.

After the ceremony, the veterans visited classrooms and spent time with the students.

The principal believes students went home with a greater appreciation of military service.

"I want the kids to understand that the veterans have paid a debt to serve our country and want them to understand and respect the value of personnel who have served in the military," principal Katina Allen said.

Close to thirty students were part of the program.
