ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Major entrances into the city of Albany are now showing honor to those who have received a special military honor.
A ceremony on Thursday dedicated Purple Heart signs and designated Albany and Dougherty County as Purple Heart communities.
Purple Heart recipients appreciate the recognition of their sacrifices while serving our country.
"If you see somebody wearing a Purple Heart or you know he has one, you have a little more esteem for him. That means he served, served his country, and in this case left a little blood along the way," said retired USMC Master Sgt. William Hamby.
Hamby received a Purple Heart after he was wounded while serving in North Korea in 1950.
