"I think they are always surprised that it's a girl that makes milk, and then they are super surprised at how old the cow is. THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Students in Thomas County got an outdoor lesson from the Georgia Mobile Dairy Classroom.

Elementary students at Garrison Pilcher got an up close look at a real cow that produces milk.

The program teaches students where milk comes from and how it's processed.

The program instructor said students always ask interesting questions.

 "I think they are always surprised that it's a girl that makes milk, and then they are super surprised at how old the cow is. Her average age is around 4 or 5 so usually around their age," said Nicole Karstedt.

They also talk to students about healthy eating and drinking habits.
