A project that has been in the works for nearly a year is finally coming to life, and we couldn't be more excited.
The city of Albany held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning for the new microbrewery project.
The Albany City Commission approved the project last December, and we are glad to see that it is now really happening.
Pretoria Fields is pumping $4.4 million into the project, with the commission agreeing to contribute $1.25 million to help develop it, but it's not just about the money.
"The brewery has been a long time coming. We've got local investment that has put their money into it. This is the beginning of many great things that are happening in Albany," said Commissioner BJ Fletcher.
WALB is excited to see this major step forward in developing Albany's downtown.
We applaud the company, the city and the county for working together to help make this happen.
We hope more private partners and businesses will join in on the revitalization efforts to help bring more life to downtown.
