ALBANY, GA (WALB) - If you walked by government center on Friday in Albany you may have gotten a healthy snack or two.
The Dougherty County school system partnered with local health organizations for Chef on the Lawn.
Folks went from table to table trying different foods and learning more about how to stay healthy.
It's the sixth year of the event during diabetes awareness month.
The school system nutrition director said most people don't realize that diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the nation.
"What we are supposed to do is educate our community on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. With diet and exercise equates to a healthy lifestyle," said DCSS nutrition director Blaine Allen.
Westover High School's culinary team took part in the event.
They even had a performance by the cheerleaders and band at Monroe High School.
