ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia farmers have a chance to learn how to make their next harvest more profitable.

The Southwest Georgia Project is bringing the 2nd annual Food, Ag and Equity conference to Albany.

There will be workshops and a speech by former national NAACP president Benjamin Jealous.

"When you get different farmers together, it's different from the one on one," said director of the Southwest Georgia Project, Shirley Sherrod. "When you get farmers together and you get rural residents together they learn things and they act on them. And they are more willing to act on them when they see others act on them."

The event starts Thursday afternoon and continues Friday.

Visit the Southwest Georgia Project website for the full schedule.
