ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Chief Persley sent condolences to families and colleagues of two officers killed in ambush attacks in Iowa on Wednesday.

Authorities said that a white man with a history of racial provocations and confrontations with police shot two officers as they sat in their cars early Wednesday morning.

Chief Persley said the incident put his officers on high alert.

"You don't want to become paranoid, however, you do want to be knowledgeable of what's happening in current events, and we talk about complacency. We don't want to repeat the same patterns and we try to not let our guard down too much," explained Persley.

Persley said that open dialogue after an attack like this is important to prevent more violence.
