Fitzgerald doctor pleads guilty to drug charges

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

A Fitzgerald doctor pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and dispense controlled substances on Tuesday.

Dr. Edd Colbert Jones entered the plea to US Attorney G.F. Peterman III. The drugs included Oxycodone, Alprazolam and Diazepam.

Jones was arrested in May.

In the plea, Jones said he was writing prescriptions to Shannon Benedict in hers and other people's names.

Benedict would then sell the drugs.

Jones faces 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
