As Lowndes Co. deputies checked the homes of the 280 registered sex offenders who live in the county, they found at least five who were breaking the law on Halloween.
Four offenders were not living where they were supposed to be, and one had child pornography.
Throughout the year, the sheriff verifies the addresses of offenders, but leading up to Halloween, a special emphasis was placed on these verifications.
"The Sheriff’s Office takes the verification and tracking of sex offenders very seriously. I am thankful for the help of the Department of Community Supervision officers who worked with our detectives and deputies to make this endeavor a success. This is a small effort on our part to assure the safety of our children and everyone in our community," said Sheriff Chris Prine.
Some offenders were checked twice, so a total of 344 contacts were made by deputies.
