AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - South Georgia Technical College is helping aspiring business owners.
The school's Business Expansion Center (BEC) has helped several businesses get off the ground, including Innovative Senior Solutions.
Jessica Wright and her sister Eshonda started the home care provider for seniors. The company strives to improve the lives of seniors by helping them at home with everyday tasks or helping them at one of their adult day centers.
Wright told WALB News 10 that the help they received from the BEC was a godsend.
The BEC located on South Georgia Tech's Americus campus has assisted with the startup of around 10 businesses.
The center includes four offices and one conference center with internet, telephone, a copy machine, and other resources. The purpose of the BEC is to help those who are seriously interested in starting their own business and helping them get to a comfortable point.
"Business is like anything else. You start out with all of the positive goals in mind. And then once you get into it, there are unexpected events, unexpected expenses, and a good business plan takes those things into account," South Georgia Technical College's President Dr. John Watford said.
Wright and her sister first started their business at the BEC and now they've grown all around South Georgia with more than 100 employees.
Mr. Wally Summers is the Vice President of Economic Development at South Georgia Technical College and assisted the sisters during their time at the center.
"He took us under his wing. He was our mentor and still is our mentor and he really gave us valuable information as to being an entrepreneur," Wright said.
Summers said that Innovative Senior Solutions is one of the most successful businesses to come out of the BEC.
