THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

After numerous nationwide scares and calls to police about creepy clowns, officials recommend you stay away from clown costumes this Halloween.

Those costumes can't be banned, but Thomas County Sheriff's deputies strongly recommend you don't wear them.

Some stores such as Target even stopped selling the costumes and masks.

Officials said it's just a safety concern for the public.

"With hoaxes going around the nation about clowns, tonight is not a good night. especially if someone has evil in mind and wants to hide and scare people, children, anyone," Cpt. Steve Jones, Thomas County Sheriff's Office

Just this month, police in several states have been dealing with threats and pranks related to people wearing clown masks.
