ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy in Dougherty County will not open until next school year, but the school's CEO is spreading the word about the benefits he believes it will have.

Chris Hatcher spoke to members of the Kiwanis Club today about the new school.

He explained the significance of the partnership between local business and industry, school systems and higher education.

The school will also serve school systems in Baker, Calhoun and Terrell counties.

"In order for us to be successful we are really going to need partnerships in our community both from business and industry as well as our community and so it's just good to get the word out and let folks know where we are in our process," said Hatcher.

The first stage of construction is starting soon at Southside Middle School.

Classes are expected to begin in the fall of 2017.
