ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany city leader is concerned by the large number of people in East Albany suffering from kidney disease.

City Commissioner Jon Howard is holding a town hall meeting on Saturday on kidney diseases.

LPN and Dialysis Educator Specialist Sarah Winkfield will be the keynote speaker discussing some of the risks and the most common types of kidney disease.

Howard said there are three dialysis centers in his district.

And some of the factors driving the disease increase are high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

"I found out that a lot of my constituents in Southwest Georgia they are lacking first hand information and so these meetings try to enhance, engage and improve the knowledge wise," said Howard.

The meeting will take place Saturday morning at the East Albany Community Center at 10am.
