ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Deer season is in full swing here in Southwest Georgia. But some hunters aren't happy about what they see as venison processing difficulties.

The Department of Natural Resources has created a new digital tagging system to allow hunters to get them processed. This system requires a smartphone, which many hunters do not have.

All deer must be tagged and submitted to the DNR.

Processing plants want to remind hunters that while the app does cut down on time, there is a number that you can call in to get your deer processed if you do not have a smartphone.

"If you call on the phone, it's about a four and a half minute process. But on the app it's about 60 seconds," said Becky Paiva of Wayne's Deer Processing.

The DNR says this is a necessary step to avoid a fine or getting your license suspended.

The telephone number that hunters must call before moving deer is 1-800-366-2661 and the app on android and IOS systems is called OutdoorGA.

You can also log into your account on someone else's smartphone if you do not personally own one.
