ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Dougherty Drug Unit said they have seen an increase in drug activity in recent days, and they have made an increased number of arrests along with it.
Drug agents have arrested four people in the last 3 days for sales of marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine. One of the men arrested had a large amount of drugs near the 8th Avenue ballpark, where kids play.
The Drug Unit Commander said usually this increase in activity is seen in the holidays, but seems to be starting early this year.
Friday, he sent drug pushers a message.
"If they are selling drugs, they may want to put it up. That will be my public service announcement to the community that wants to get involved in selling drugs. Because we're on to them and we are going to catch them," said Major Prurince Dice, ADDU Commander.
Dice said the drug unit would be following up on these arrests and other information that has been coming in to their agents.
He said that tells them that drug sales are increasing in the Albany area now.
Brian Jeffcoat was arrested on October 27th. Jeffcoat was being monitored for the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
He also had an outstanding warrant for Forgery 2nd Degree.
Agents responded to reports that Jeffcoat was in a car in the 900 block of 8th Avenue.
As he was arrested, agents seized 14 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, 2.9 grams of heroin, 3.5 grams of marijuana and multiple scales and other drug related objects.
Jeffcoat was charged with Forgery 2nd Degree, Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine with intent to distribute, Possession of Heroin with intent to distribute, Possession of marijuana and Possession of drug related objects.
Montravious Gibson was arrested on October 26th after a traffic stop lead to the seizure of more than 250 grams of marijuana and $2,996 in cash.
Gibson was charged with Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Possession of drug related objects, Probation Violation, Child Restraint times two, Failure to maintain lane, Driving while suspended or revoked.
Marcus Crouch was arrested on October 27th after drug agents smelled a drug odor coming from his vehicle.
Agents seized 24.8 grams of marijuana, and Crouch was charged with Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Emmit Hunt III was arrested on October 28th after agents served a search warrant and found a small quantity of marijuana.
Hunt was charged with Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and drug related objects.
