ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new comedy mystery is having its world premiere in Albany on Thursday, October 27, 2016, and the playwright wants to hear from a few South Georgians.
Theatre Albany's Artistic Director Mark Costello told WALB News 10 that the cast and crew have been rehearsing "The Curse of the Blue Monkey" for five weeks now.
"It's been interesting working on a play that is brand new…" Costello said.
The director is good friends with Ed Sala, the playwright who wrote the new comedy mystery.
"Of course I never really get to do that, work with a playwright, because most plays are established and this one is brand new," Costello said.
Sala said the play is an interesting mix of an Agatha Christie novel and "Clue."
This show is a sequel to Sala's first comedy mystery "Bloody Murder."
Theatre Albany performed that show several years ago and three of the actors are returning to reprise their roles for "The Curse of the Blue Monkey."
Since it was published, "Bloody Murder" has been shown at 60 different theatres and Sala hopes to publish "The Curse of the Blue Monkey."
But before he takes it to his publishers, Sala wants to hear feedback from the audience.
"Audiences don't have anything to prove, they're just there to relax and have fun. And they're pretty honest, so I need that kind of honesty," Sala said.
Sala will be at Thursday's performance and will be available to talk with audience members after the show.
After hearing some feedback, Sala will edit his script before he sends it off to the publishing company for final approval.
"The Curse of the Blue Monkey" runs Oct. 27, 28, 29, and Nov. 4, 5, at 7:30 p.m. There's also a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.
