DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County school system has faced a number of tragedies this year, including the death of two students.

The school system has a crisis team made up of 22 people who are asked to help in times of need.

Administrators said those people have gone above and beyond.

On Wednesday those staff members were given certificates of appreciation for their selfless dedication to education.

"I just refer to them as our angels because they come in and they take charge and they meet not only the physical needs but their emotional needs at the moment and they follow up," said the Dougherty County Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Jack Willis.

Willis said the team continues to follow up months after tragedies occur.
