ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Thousands of visitors came to town for Albany State University's homecoming, boosting community spirit and the economy.

Preliminary numbers showed that there were close to 25,000 people in Albany throughout the weekend.

Hotels were booked solid.

The Director of the Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau Rashelle Beasley said that she was happy the weather cooperated, and she expects homecoming weekend to continue to grow with the ASU and Darton merger.

"We are hoping that with the merger of the two colleges together that we can expand in a much bigger way in the future. You are bringing more students together and having them graduate from a much larger university, so it's a time for us to grow," said Beasley.

Beasley said that another hotel will open soon that will provide more space for visitors.
