ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State (4-3) hadn't dropped a game to Clark Atlanta University (5-3) since 2001, and of course homecoming wouldn't be the exception.
Saturday afternoon the Golden Rams defeated the Panthers 17-7 at the Albany State University Coliseum.
The Rams trailed at the half 7-3, but outscored CAU 14-0 in the second half thanks to a passing and rushing touchdown from QB Caleb Edmonds.
In a game that served as both homecoming and senior night, Edmonds was interception-free while throwing for 232 yards.
ASUs lack of turnovers allowed for its defense to control the game. The Rams were bent, but only broke once on 2nd quarter touchdown scramble from the Panthers backup quarterback Dashawn Blow.
The victory snapped a 4-game winning streak by the Panthers, and it lifted Albany State atop the SIAC East standings.
The Rams will face Benedict College next weekend in Augusta.
