DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Police arrested the man they think robbed a convenience store wearing a creepy skeletor mask.
It was that frightening mask that drew attention during the robbery of the Flash Foods on the Liberty Expressway about 4:20 in the morning on September 30th.
WALB showed surveillance video the next day, asking for viewers to help identify him, and police said someone did.
"We got a tip from CrimeSTOPPERS that actually identified the subject. Once the subject was identified his residence was searched. And several of the items that were used in the armed robbery was at that location," said Dougherty County Police Lt. A.G. Rogers.
Wednesday night police, arrested Aaron Barnes, 24, at his home on Habersham Road, and charged him with armed robbery and theft by receiving.
However, It was not the mask that the tipster recognized on the surveillance video.
"Well, the shoes. I think we talked about the shoes in the first interview that you did. The shoes and the socks, which is one of the things that were recognized," said Rogers.
With the rash of convenience store armed robberies rocking South Georgia, police say the community is trying to help and police appreciate their help.
"Yes sir. They are tired of it. And enough is enough. It needs to stop. And thanks to the help of CrimeSTOPPERS we believe we put a small dent in what is going on today," said Rogers.
Barnes is being held in the Dougherty County jail without bond.
Police said Barnes was charged with theft by receiving because the gun used in the robbery was stolen.
Now that tipster will be eligible for a reward of up to one thousand dollars from CrimeSTOPPERS
