ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

City leaders laid out  airport plans for the next five years on Monday night.

The Aviation Commission discussed strategic plans during their monthly meeting.

Officials discussed plans to improve the runway by April of next year.

And plans to start construction for a passenger boarding bridge by next October.

"We're looking at ways to improve passenger amenities and looking at way to make the experience here at the airport a lot better for our passengers," said Southwest GA Regional Airport Transportation Director David Hamilton.

There are also plans to change a vacant lot --which was once home to the old UPS hanger lot -- into a car rental lot for long-term parking.

That design will be presented at the next meeting on November 21st.
