AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The murder trial against Jermaine Taylor began Monday. Jury selection was Monday morning in Sumter County.
The trial was set to begin at 3:30 Monday afternoon.
Taylor is charged with two counts of felony murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, seven counts of armed robbery, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime.
The charges stemmed from an incident at 104 Price Street in Americus on December 22, 2014.
Taylor was indicted on 17 charges in August 2015.
GBI agents originally reported that Marcus Harper and Martin Thames died in a shootout at the house on Price Street.
According to agents, Thames and Taylor were planning to rob the occupants of the house.
