ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Darton state's prestigious basketball program may have dissolved, but one of it's biggest events is still going strong.
The 4th Annual southeast JUCO jamboree tipped off Saturday morning.
31 women's teams gathered in the Darton State gym for exhibition scrimmages.
This wasn't just a tune-up for the fall season.
Over 100 scouts from over 70 universities in the country were in attendance.
College coaches got their first up-close look at potential junior college transfers to add to their 4-year programs.
Every junior college team in Georgia was in attendance, and it's due to the success this event has had in the past.
"A couple of the JUCO coaches today told me this is the best event for our kids because we've had more kids sign to go to 4-year schools because of this event than anything else we've participated in," said Darton State athletic director Lea Henry. "So when you hear things like that it makes you feel good about what's happening. You know you're doing a positive thing for the kids."
Darton State athletics put on the event which ran from 9 am to 9 pm.
